Thurs. 8/29/13 Subtracting Real Numbers Day 2

 We completed the subtraction portion of the foldable on Real Number Rules. We also looked at some practice problems using the subtraction rule. Practice 5-minute quiz was given today. The 5-minute subtraction quiz will be given tomorrow.

Wed. 8/28/13 Subtracting Real Numbers

The class took the 5-minute-quiz on adding real numbers. and proceeded to grade it. The foldable for integer/real number rules followed. We had enough time to work on rules for subtracting real numbers. We will look at some examples tomorrow. 

Bad news though -- no homework today :(     

Tue.,8/27/13 Adding Real Numbers

We extended the warm-up,  which was  adding positive numbers in different forms( whole, fractions and decimals), to adding real numbers --  signed numbers.

The class took a practice timed (5 minutes) quiz on adding integers later in the period. A timed quiz on addig real numbers will be given tomorrow.

Mon. 8/26/13 The Real Number Line

We created and used the real number line to 
graph, compare and order real numbers. We also evaluated the opposites and absolute value of real numbers.

Thurs. 8/22/23 Review for Chapter 1 Test

Class worked in pairs to study for the Chapter Test. Homework for tonight is an extension of this review. 

Students should check their work to verify their answers.Pay special attention to problem solving and writing equations to solve problems.

Wed., 8/21/13 Introduction to Functions

 

 

 To introduce the concept of algebraic function, the class went over some vocabulary word and examples (and non-examples) of functions. We also completed table of values when an equation for a certain domain (set of input values).

Tue., 8/20/13 Tables and Graphs

The Warm-up activity was a review of the order of operations. It is also an introduction to an activity that we will have regularly in our Algebra class ---  Post It, Prove It!  The lesson was on data, graphs, interpreting graphs, and finding answers based on the graph. Copies of  the lesson notes were handed out to be glued to your notebook. Period 6 was able to complete a Post It, Prove It activity. Period 6'  number for today was 10. Period 5 will work on their number tomorrow.

Mon. 8/19/13 Translating Verbal Models

For Lesson 1.5 - Translating Verbal Models, the class created a "four-door"  foldable to illustrate the different words associated with the four basic mathematical operations. Tonight's homework is from the textbook:

HW 1.5  page 35  #13-47 (odds).  Always verify your answers. Answers for odd-numbered problems are given at the back of the book.  Always SHOW YOUR WORK.

Remember to bring your class supplies (notebook, pencils, glue sticks, colored pencils, highliters) daily as we use them regularly in class.

The class went over some vocabulary words and examples on equations inequalities and expressions. We also verified if a number  is a solution of the equation/inequality or not.

Fri., 8/9/13 - Week1 Wrap-up

It has been a very good first week and I look forward to the weeks to come! First minimum day today. The class went over the procedure in completing the homework log and scoring assignments. After going over some questions yesterday's homework, class worked on Practice Quiz#1.  Quiz #1 will be given on Monday after the day's lesson.

Wed., 8/7/13 - Integer Operations

Warm-up sheet for Weeks 1 & 2 were handed out today. I collected completed and signed course syllabi. The class reviewed adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. We also looked for patterns for Magix -X and completed some of them.
