Thurs., 9/26/13 Solving Literal Equations

A review and further discussion of yesterday's lesson (applications and word problems!)
was necessary and was given today.  We also went over solving literal equations.
The quiz review on the second half of the period was a stations activity.

There is a quiz on lesson 3.4, 3.5 and 3.7 tomorrow.

Mon., 9/16/13 Solving Linear Equations by Adding or Subtracting

Certain transformations are allowed to write equivalent equations: add same number on both sides, subtract same number on both sides, simplifying one or both sides, and interchange left side with right side. The class went over writing and solving equations using different word problems/real-life scenarios. Inverse operations were used to solve equations.

Grade track sheet updated today for Week 5 grades.

Thu., 9/12/13 Chapter Test Review

Class reviewed simplifying expressions and division of real numbers.
The test review  was started in class and is to completed for homework.

Wed. 9/11/13 Simplifying Algebraic Expressions

The class completed a worksheet on simplifying algebraic expressions by using distributive property and combining like terms. We also reviewed division of real numbers, including complex fractions. 

Chapter 2  test is scheduled for Friday, 9/13. We will review for it tomorrow.

Tue., 9/10/13 - Dividing Real Numbers

 

The class went over Division of Real Numbers today. The examples ranged from division of integers to division of algebraic expression by a number: (12x-9) / (-3).

Mon., 9/9/13 - Skills Review

The class had a guest teacher today and was asked to work on the exercises on page 122 of the textbook, #1-40.

Fri. 9/6/13 - Quiz 2.2-2.6

Week 5 HW packet was turned in (HW 2.4, 2.5, 2.6), a quick review, then Quiz 2.2-2.6.
No homework for the weekend :(

Thurs. 9/5/13 TheDistributive Property

Addition, subtraction, and multiplication  come together in distributive property and simplifying algebraic expressions by combining like terms. The distributive property was introduced using area model (writing an expression fpr the area of a rectangle).  A quiz is scheduled for tomorrow.

Wed. 9/4/13 Multiplying Real Numbers

The lesson started with a review of multiplication rules for signed number. We completed the multiplication section of the Integer Rules foldable.  An extension of this concept is on multiplication of one-term algebraic expressions and evaluating expressions. The class started the semester's grade track sheet. We will track weekly grades on this sheet, numerically and graphically

Tue., 9/3/13 Adding and Subtracting Matrices

The class worked on adding and subtracting matrices. The first part is on vocabulary words (matrix, row, column, entry/element of matrix, and size of matrix = number of rows x number of columns. ) This offered a good review and application of adding and subtracting real numbers.
